What we want
The science is clear. We need to halve greenhouse gas emissions by the end of the decade to avoid the most catastrophic impacts of climate change. This requires urgent action from government and business.
Insurance campaigning.
Put simply: without insurance, new fossil fuel projects can’t go ahead.
The Lloyd's of London marketplace insures some of the most damaging fossil fuel projects in the world. It has also refused to rule out insuring the proposed East African Crude Oil Pipeline, which will rip through Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Many European insurers have already stopped insuring new coal, oil and gas. Yet Lloyd’s still provides cover for these polluting projects, against all the climate science.
We are calling on Lloyd’s to immediately stop insuring these hugely damaging activities, to rule out insuring all new fossil fuel projects, and to develop a plan to quickly phase down support for existing oil and gas.
Oil and gas campaigning.
Every year the UK government spends billions supporting the fossil fuel industry through tax breaks and subsidies. We are calling on our government to:
> End support for dirty energy and put a stop to licences for oil and gas exploration in the North Sea.
> Kickstart a major drive for energy efficiency and ambitious expansion of clean renewable energy and green transport.
> Support fossil fuel workers through the transition and ensure poor communities see the benefits of a low carbon economy.
> Help ensure families across the world get the support they need to adapt to a changing climate and rebuild their lives in the wake of climate disasters.
